Odeon Swing Music Series (Switzerland) B-35 605 Matrix W81775 Duke Ellington and His Orchestra New Desor DE2710a Recorded Nov 3 1927 Okeh session, 11 Union Square, New York City Listen with "Jazz Old Time On-Line", (courtesy of Michel Essevaz-Roulet) Image courtesy of Dr. Michael Arie added 2012-02-04 From what I've been able to make out at http://www.swingtime.de, the Odeon label was introduced in Nazi Germany in 1938, playing Anglo-American hot and sweet jazz from OKeh and Parlophone recordings made from 1927 - 1935. The "ODEON SWING MUSIC SERIES" is identical with some British "PARLOPHONE FIRST NEW RHYTHM STYLE SERIES" and "PARLOPHONE SECOND NEW RHYTHM STYLE SERIES." With the recent modern masters, it reaches some recordings of "PARLOPHONE 1934 RHYTHM STYLE SERIES". The Swiss series was numbered B 35 000, the Italian series, on heavier records with poorer sound quality, were number A 2300, and the German editions used a fancier font for the titles and catalogue numbers, and were numbered in the A 286000 series. |
