The band began 1939 playing a New Years Eve party at the Forum in Montréal. On January 3, it played for 1,800 in concert in the Great Hall at New York City College. On January 13, it began six nights at Nixon's Grand Theater in Philadelphia, followed by a week at the Paramount in Newark, in turn followed by a week at the State Theater in Hartford. It played dances in Ithaca and New York before its next theater engagement, a week at the Apollo in Harlem. Its next gig was the Columbia University prom at the Waldorf Astoria on February 24, alternating with the Hal Kemp Orchestra.

Herr Hällström advises me that the original version was presented for the first time at both concerts performed that evening, and the broadcast is from the second concert. The record, made after the band returned to the USA, is an abridged version. This would be necessary due to the limitations imposed by 78s. Image courtesy of The Dooji Collection added 2011-07-08 |

While this album was not, so far as I am aware, part of Victor's Red Seal label series, it was advertised in 1943 and 1944 in Life Magazine for $2.50 in ads for that label. It was released as a Victor Smart Set, and also without that appellation too, as an 8 side 78 RPM album in early 1943.
